Hamzeh is a statistical geneticist and postdoctoral fellow at the Daffodil Centre. He currently concentrates on developing and validating genetic risk assessment tools for major cancers in Australia, including breast, colorectal, melanoma, and prostate cancers. Utilising data from the UK Biobank and the 45 and Up Study, among other sources from Queensland and Victoria, Hamzeh’s efforts aim to enhance the effectiveness of cancer screening and early detection in Australia.

Amber Salisbury is a Research Associate and PhD candidate in health economics. Her research focuses on applying economic methods to quantify the value of genetic and genomic testing. Amber is interested in stated preference studies (e.g. discrete choice experiments) and economic evaluations, particularly those involving economic modelling.

Dr. Renan Almeida is an early-career researcher with a strong background in genomics and a Research Fellow at the Daffodil Centre. His current work focuses on advancing the Policy1 modelling platform by integrating genomic risk-based screening to guide evidence-based policy decisions aimed at shaping personalised early detection strategies for prostate cancer.

Philip Ly (BBMed (Hons)) is a PhD researcher at The Daffodil Centre, a joint venture between the University of Sydney and Cancer Council NSW. He brings experience across clinical trials, evidence synthesis, and both quantitative and qualitative research. For his PhD, Philip is investigating the potential of genomics-informed risk prediction to improve early detection for common cancers in Australia. Beyond his PhD, Philip contributes to several projects across the ‘Melanoma and Skin Cancer’ and ‘Genomics and Precision Health’ research streams at the Daffodil Centre and is actively involved in teaching at the University of Sydney’s School of Public Health. Philip’s broader research interests span cancer epidemiology, cancer prevention and early detection, as well as the application of genetics and genomics in public health. Philip is supported by an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship and a University of Sydney Postgraduate Research Scholarship.

Dr Deborah Zhou is a medical oncologist at St George and Sutherland Hospital. Dr Zhou holds a Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physician and Master of Public Health. Dr Zhou joined the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre in 2022 as a Research Fellow and is currently working in the thoracic portfolio with the Thoracic Oncology Group of Australasia (TOGA). She is also currently pursuing a PhD with the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre.

Josh is a pharmaceutical and medical devices industry professional with over 18 years of experience. He began his career as a Pricing and Reimbursement Analyst, never anticipating a future in research. However, working closely with data and policy sparked a passion for epidemiology and health economics. Choosing to deepen his expertise, he pursued a Master of Public Health at the University of Sydney, opting for public health over an MBA. Currently, Josh is National Business Manager at a Swiss diagnostics company. He remains an active member of the Public Health Association of Australia, with research interests focused on the commercial determinants of health.

David is in his penultimate year of the Doctor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. Simultaneously, he is undertaking a project under the supervision of A/Prof Julia Steinberg and Dr Melissa Merritt at The Daffodil Centre, a joint venture between Cancer Council NSW and the University of Sydney.

David’s project intends to explore the performance of several internationally validated risk-prediction models for colorectal cancer when applied to a large-scale Australian cohort.
